The concept for the cover was mainly inspired by the following quotes from the book introduction (these are free translations):
The stories tell themselves.
On the other side of the skin, life flows in its splendour, desolation and mystery.
Time dramatises the stories so you fall asleep little by little or, perhaps, so you wake up at once.
And so everything happens in the meantime, between always and never, somewhere between your wakefulness and your sleep.
We opted for simplicity and vivid colours to convey the qualities of experimentation and spontaneity found in the short stories. The three graphic and gestural elements have different colours as they represent a face as a whole, but also each one of them is a symbol in itself. The yellow profile flows like a river/road/border between the two eyes, separating both sides of the skin, inner and outer. Each eye represents different states of consciousness; wakefulness and dream. The title is placed right where the mouth would be, therefore 'the stories tell themselves'.

While preparing these images to present the project, I asked Angela to choose a few passages from her book. I picked three from her selection and once I had them on the screen I decided to play with the handwriting I had previously made to separate the 3 chapters of the book. To my surprise, they fitted perfectly with the extracts angela selected. Now they have created a new meaning for themselves and I thought I would share. (Sorry, only in Spanish for now...)
